Omega Ice Machine with CO2 (R744)

October 12, 2020

Over the last few decades, synthetic refrigerants such as CFCs and HCFCs are being phased out by regulation. Increasing concern and regulatory actions related to the environmental impact of hydro fluorocarbon (HFC) refrigerants has prompted a re-emergence of carbon dioxide (CO2) based refrigeration systems and other low GWP solutions around the world.

CO2 based refrigeration is of interest due to low global warming potential, low costs compared to other refrigerants, energy reduction, and is non-toxic. Another benefit is no need for expensive future retrofits due to the freon refrigerant phase out.

While gravity flooded feed is very effective with ammonia, it is not commonly used with CO2. This is due to the higher density CO2 liquid compared to ammonia and the high pressure in the shock drum.

The Omega CO2 Ice Machine is increasingly used in the food sector. Supermarkets are more and more installing Ice Machines with a CO2 cooling system. We observe the same development in the fish- and meat industry.

Features OMEGA CO2 Ice Machine

  • Capacities from 1,000 to> 100,000 Kg / day of ice per unit.
  • Efficient laser welded Pillow Plate evaporator plates with low volume and low energy consumption.
  • Excellent ratio between footprint and heat transfer surface.
  • No moving parts (which results in low maintenance).
  • Simple cleaning and maintenance, making it ideal for the food industry.
